Sheldon Whitehouse is a Democratic senator from Rhode Island who has served in the U.S. Senate since 2007, according to Congress.gov.
The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works identifies Whitehouse as its ranking member, serving opposite Chair Shelley Moore Capito.
Whitehouse was one of the senators who introduced the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2026. On July 15 the EPW Committee unanimously approved the measure, which the committee says authorizes Army Corps of Engineers studies and projects and reauthorizes EPA drinking-water and wastewater infrastructure programs.
