Biography & Current Office
Tim Scott
Tim Scott is a Republican U.S. senator from South Carolina. His official Senate and committee materials record prior service in local government, the South Carolina House and the U.S. House before his appointment to the Senate in 2013 and subsequent elections to the seat.
In the 119th Congress, Scott serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The committee identifies him as the first Black chair of a Senate standing committee, and his office also lists service on Finance, HELP, Small Business, Homeland Security and Aging.
The Banking Committee’s 119th-Congress agenda emphasizes financial inclusion, housing, capital formation, regulatory oversight and reauthorizations. Those policy priorities are recorded as official committee work rather than thermometer-rated claims.
