Marilyn Strickland is the Democratic U.S. representative for Washington’s 10th District and has served in the House since January 2021. Her official biography records earlier service on the Tacoma City Council and as mayor of Tacoma, followed by leadership of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. She is the first African American to represent Washington state in Congress and one of the first Korean American women elected to the House.
The House Clerk currently lists Strickland on Armed Services and Transportation and Infrastructure, with subcommittee assignments covering military personnel, readiness, Coast Guard and maritime transportation, and highways and transit. Her official biography also identifies her as Whip of the New Democrat Coalition and Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus.
