The House Historian records his legal and public-service background, including service on the University of Colorado Board of Regents and as executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies before his 2018 election to Congress.

The House Historian lists Neguse as Assistant Democratic Leader in both the 118th and 119th Congresses. The House Clerk currently lists him on the Judiciary, Natural Resources and Rules committees. He also served as a House impeachment manager in 2021.
