Biography & Current Office
Background & current office
Vern Buchanan is the Republican U.S. representative for Florida’s 16th Congressional District and has served in the House since 2007. He is vice chair of Ways and Means, chairs its Health Subcommittee, and serves on the Joint Committee on Taxation.
Buchanan’s official biography records a business career before Congress, six years in the Air National Guard, and long-running work on tax, trade, health, veterans, and animal-welfare legislation.
On January 27, 2026, Buchanan announced that he will retire at the conclusion of the current term. He remains a current House member until that term ends; the announced retirement is treated as a future transition, not as an already completed departure.

Recent Recorded Votes
Official recorded-vote record
FactFlag keeps vote data in the public-record layer rather than treating a vote by itself as a factual controversy. Use the official chamber roll-call database to inspect current votes; claim-specific vote explanations are added only when a sourced allegation requires them.
Sponsored/Cosponsored & Curated Notable Legislation
Legislation & official congressional activity
No legislation has been promoted into the curated editorial layer for this member yet. That is intentional: FactFlag does not manufacture a “notable bill” merely to fill a profile.
Use the official federal records below to review sponsored legislation, roll-call activity and current office statements. FactFlag will add claim-specific vote explanations only when a particular vote or legislative action is actually part of a sourced claim.
